The cartoon I chose connects to this chapter because it demonstrates the concept of interdependence within a group. In the image, two students appear to be doing the work, one student is sleeping, and another is simply raising their hand instead of contributing to the project. The caption, “Group Project Vibes… When Collaboration is Optional,” humorously highlights a situation that many students have experienced. The chapter explains that groups are made up of people who work together toward a common goal and rely on one another to be successful. This reliance on each member is called interdependence. When some members choose not to participate, it can create frustration and make it more difficult for the group to achieve its objective. The cartoon shows how a lack of collaboration can affect the entire group, even when a few members are trying their best to complete the task.

This cartoon relates to my life because I have participated in many group projects throughout college. In several classes, I have experienced situations where some group members worked hard while others contributed very little. As a result, a few students ended up completing most of the assignment. This also relates to my work environment because teamwork is important when working with students and coworkers. Everyone has responsibilities that contribute to the success of the group. The chapter helped me understand that effective group communication requires participation, cooperation, and accountability from all members. Overall, this cartoon reminds me that groups function best when everyone contributes and works together toward the same goal.
